Investing in a handmade or machine-made rug comes with the cost of regular care and maintenance.

You have to clean the rug properly every two days, make sure no one walks over it with dirty shoes on, and place it in the right spot under the right furniture for the rug to truly shine.

However, sometimes a rug or carpet can get damaged due to heavy furniture. But good news is, furniture dents on rugs with a wool pile can be treated easily at home.

For instance, if you own a Jaldar handmade rug, Zeigler carpet, or a valuable Persian rug that has been damaged due to heavy furniture, there’s no need to replace it because you can get rid of the carpet dents.

we dive into the world of home maintenance where unsightly furniture dents on rugs become a common woe. Navigating through this challenge involves clever techniques that don’t require professional intervention. It’s not just about concealing the marks; it’s about restoring the rug’s plush appearance. As we explore the tricks to erase furniture dents, we uncover methods involving ice cubes, steam, and even the strategic placement of household items. These simple yet effective solutions showcase that maintaining the beauty of your rug doesn’t always necessitate a trip to the store or a call to the professionals – sometimes, a bit of ingenuity and household items can work wonders.

    How?

Keep reading for some expert tips!

If the heavy furniture has made holes in the flatweave rug you own, you may have to choose and buy a new one from those handmade carpets for sale online. But if your rug has a pile, then you’re in luck!

    • All you need to do is:

Here’s how you can get furniture dents out of your rug at home:

    1. Apply Some Ice

Dents on rugs are a bit like acne. They’re ugly, unappealing, and can be treated easily with some cold hard ice!

To treat the furniture dents in your rug, all you need to do is place some ice cubes over the affected area. Let the ice melt over the rug (don’t worry about making your rug wet, we’d deal with that later).

For larger and more severe dents, place bigger ice cubes and let them sit for up to 12 hours. The cold water would bring the rug fibres back to their original state.

Afterwards, you can blot the excess water with paper towels or by using a clean kitchen sponge, and create an airflow in the room so the rug can dry out properly.

You can also use a spoon or coin to lift up the squished or matted rug fibres.

However, when treating the dents on your rug with ice, make sure to properly dry it out afterwards. That’s because water and moisture can cause your rug to start smelling bad. The odour can linger on for days and you’d have to get the rug professionally deep cleaned to get rid of it.

Also, a wet rug can easily become home to mould. And once mould starts growing, there’s no way back, you’d have to replace your magnificent Jaldar rug with a new one.

    2. Blow Dry Your Rug

Just as blow drying adds volume to your hair, it would do the same to the downtrodden fibres of your rug.

Simply spray the affected area of your rugs with a bit of water using a spray bottle and then blow dry the spot afterwards. While the rug is drying, use your fingers to fluff up the matted fibres and your rug would start coming back to its original state as the dampness goes away.

    3. Use a Towel

This may sound weird, but a towel can really help get those furniture marks out of your expensive rug.

All you need to do is:

    • Dampen a dish towel or a clean piece of cloth
    • Place it directly over the damaged spot
    • Turn an iron on and set it to medium or steam mode
    • Iron the damp towel or cloth for around thirty seconds

You can repeat the steps until the dents go away completely. Nevertheless, be careful not to let the iron touch your rug directly as it can burn the fibres, and if that happens, you’d be left with no choice other than replacing your beloved rug with a new one.

All in all, when it comes to pesky furniture dents, you may be tempted to throw out the old rug, put more furniture over it to hide the ugly marks, or cover it up using the rug layering technique. But with the easy tricks we’ve shared above, you can get rid of any furniture marks and avoid having to spend dollars on a new carpet for your living room.

These three techniques could be used for both high-pile and low-pile rugs made of wool, cotton, or any other material.

However, if it’s a flatweave rug that has been damaged by heavy furniture, you can’t really bring it back to its original state. That’s because flatweaves don’t have a pile, and heavy furniture can cause holes to form in the rug. Repairing such damage is a long process and should be done by a professional rug weaver.

Lastly, we’d recommend you to avoid putting heavy furniture over your rug’s surface for a long time period. Also, get a rug pad and place it underneath your rug and carpet to minimize the damage.
