Should You Visit Your Manhasset Dentist If Your Toothache Has Suddenly Disappeared?

Toothaches can be quite debilitating. They can develop due to tooth decay, an infected gum, a damaged filling, or an abscessed tooth. Depending on what caused your toothache, it might disappear suddenly, leaving you thinking about whether or not to see a dentist. But when this occurs, something might still be wrong with your mouth, so it’s best to visit a dentist who specializes like manhasset general and cosmetic dentistry. Your dentist will examine your mouth to determine what caused the toothache and address the issue appropriately.

Why Visit a Dentist Even if Your Toothache Disappeared

A visit to a dentist is important if you experience toothaches even if they have disappeared. Otherwise, you are risking subsequent tooth damage and tooth loss. The ache may have disappeared due to tooth decay, which can be partial or total. Tooth decay is caused by bacteria in sugary foods and drinks that produce some chemicals that attack the enamel of your tooth, causing tooth decay over time.

When not treated, a tooth infection can affect the innermost layer of your tooth, known as the pulp. Decay that reaches the pulp will attack the nerves that send brain signals. Eventually, these nerves will die and won’t be able to send signals, ending your toothache.

But while the pulp nerves have died, the infection remains and can advance into surrounding tissues, your jaw, and jawbone. A dentist can prevent this from happening by performing a root canal treatment. In this procedure, the dentist will make a hole in your tooth to access the pulp and remove infected or dead tissues. Then, they will place a crown on the tooth to safeguard it from infection or fracture.

Steps to Take When Your Toothache Disappears

Generally, you need to see your dentist twice every year to prevent tooth infection, tooth decay, and other dental issues. But if you have been suffering from a toothache that tends to disappear suddenly, you must see your dentist as soon as possible. Although the pain may have subsided, there may be an underlying issue that your dentist must address. For instance, if the toothache is due to a damaged dental filling, your dentist can give you a new filling to address the problem and the associated pain. Just because your toothache disappeared does not mean you have no dental issues to worry about. Only a dentist can examine your mouth and determine what exactly is going on.
